I’d always been called “shy” as a kid, but didn’t really know what to do about it. I felt like a weirdo, but always enjoyed my own company, music, crafts, and animals…over being around people.
For my 16th birthday, my grandma gave me two books that I loved. An astrology book and a ‘peaceful arts’ book about mindfulness, yoga, and meditation. I was fascinated! And I finally saw my sensitiveness presented as a gift.
There was something about astrology, meditation, and psychology that seemed so natural to me. Since then, I’ve enjoyed learning anything about self-reflection through symbology and psychology.
But, I followed a mainstream path based on what I thought would make me happy. I got married at 22 years old, had a profitable career in commercial real estate, and things seemed great on the outside….while I found myself progressively searching for more meaning in my life.
At 26, I rediscovered yoga! This lead to a passionate study of yoga philosophy and subtle energy (the Chakras). Around this same time, I began a daily meditation practice. I started with just 5 minutes a day but this had a profound effect on how I felt. I was curious to discover more.
When I was 28, I started teaching yoga and questioned my career path in real estate. I wasn’t fulfilled but also wasn’t sure what else to do. Around that same time, I got divorced after finding my husband having an ongoing affair. That year was intensely painful, exciting, scary, and freeing – all at once. My interest in yoga, meditation, and astrology provided healing, comfort, and guidance during the inner and outer chaos.
Eventually, I realized that real estate wasn’t fulfilling. I left my real estate job shortly after turning 30 to finding something in the helping and healing arts that suited me. It has been quite the journey! Over the past 5 years or so, I managed a resort spa, taught yoga, was a personal assistant, learned Reiki and Deeksha, did life coaching, worked as a consultant, a receptionist, and several other seemingly random jobs while I experimented with practicing & teaching yoga, meditation, energy work, and astrology.
I was encouraged to do astrology professionally when I was 31 years old – something I never would have never planned! To my surprise, I LOVED doing astrology sessions for others. The symbolism of astrology speaks to me and I find the counseling aspect of talking with people exciting, fascinating, and fulfilling.
Doing astrology readings helped me realize that I’m a counselor at heart. Around my 34th birthday, I went back to school to finish my undergraduate degree and eventually get my masters to become a counseling psychologist. Something I’d always wanted to do! I’m currently in the process of finishing my degree and will eventually work toward licensure.
I incorporate astrology and tarot into my counseling sessions as well as my life experience and intuitive senses. I work best with people who are sensitive souls and want to find a way to thrive in a world that seems overwhelming.
In my free time, I love experimenting with crafty creative projects, going for long walks, visiting the beach, and learning how to play guitar.
